Flourishes and Filigree Finishing
/During Purva's work with Robert Stern architects in New York, she grew quite familiar with exploring the many different styles of residential architecture design. She found working with homebuilders to be a very rewarding experience, matching their goals, preferences and lifestyle with a style of architecture that makes sense to their everyday life.
Taking those skills with her upon a move to Dallas four years ago (2013), she worked with master architect Richard Davis, an expert in period eclectic residential architecture. Purva was part of the design team that worked on one of the largest houses in the nation, a titanic 70,000 square foot residence in Springfield (currently under construction).
The client knew from the start that they wanted a classical American style house, opting for a Federal style that was popularized during the late 1700s. This multi-year project had Purva up close with many interior details including moldings, millwork, paneling, decorative ceilings, stair details, and fireplace mantels. Intrigued, she began to explore more classical moldings in architecture.
Purva's explorations and design research led to many notes and sketches involving flourishes, curls, and opulent details... elements that help elevate a more simple design into one of opulence and magnificence. Leafy details and perfectly balanced circlets added so much detail to the character of the space, creating the setting of the room at every detail.
Slowly, these sketches paved the way to a filigree ring design that she sketched one day. Having a husband with a family background in fine jewelry, the connection allowed Purva to put life into the sketch and create a ring from the design.
They created a CAD design and casting from the filigree ring sketch, and set it in rose gold to enhance the classic feel of the design. The ring was finished with 1.38 carats of white diamond. It’s interesting to see the many ways structural design can influence, translate and fuse these elements into other platforms, such as a classic filigree ring.
